Rivington
Rivington is an existing chalet bungalow elevated above Higher Park Road, Braunton. It was compact, dated and offers little in terms of architectural value. The road itself boasts a diverse array of architectural styles, something which the applicants hoped to exploit, demolishing the existing in favour of its replacement with a contemporary new dwelling.

The current property, being arranged predominantly over a single storey places little emphasis on the far reaching views and is therefore mostly disconnected from its wider context. The replacement will enhance this connection, add positively to the varying streetscape and improve the environmental credentials associated with the property.
The result is a modern new home, characterised by horizontal banding which is extruded from each side of the building in order to bind the spaces together as one (internal and external). These linear bans sandwich the glazing, only broken by modest vertical sections to align with how the spaces have been zoned internally. Deep overhangs ensure the glazed southern elevation does not cause overheating and enables the external raised terrace(s) to seamlessly become part of the internal space whatever the weather conditions.
